Finally Out of the Office!

I finally got out of the office!  SIM has a project of a Christian school in one of the slum areas of Nairobi, Kariobangi.  This area has a high population of the Borana that Jeff is working with.  The pupils had outgrown the school, so we started a project to build a new one when the Lord provided the 2 plots adjacent to the 4 rooms the school was renting.  We went to the opening of the school.  Right now, only the first floor is complete, but the 2nd and 3rd floor structures are in place.  The ceremony was great and the kids performed skits, sang songs and presented us visitors and parents with a red rose.  Then they fed us lunch.  Quite a celebration.

Although the drive to the Ark school where we went was harrowing, Jeff drove like a “true Kenyan”.  J  At one point, we drove up the wrong lane of a divided road.  Of course, we weren’t the only ones.  Jeff just followed the pack!  I closed my eyes and prayed, and we safely made it!  Fortunately, we had a couple of Kenyans riding with us that helped us navigate out.

It was fun to be out and about.  When we alighted at the school, we were greeted by a dozen tiny 2 to 4 year olds all shouting “Mzungu, Mzungu!”  (Mzungu is what the Kenyans call us white people).  Then they came running up to shake our hand.

A drama performed by the students on adult literacy.

Workaholic?

Has it really been 6 months since my last post?  Guess there's nobody reading now.  Sigh...staying in communication is so hard for me.  I kind of wish I could just hook up a webcam to my life and let you see for yourself!  ('course I think that may be equally boring! :)  )  If you're still hanging in there, let me give you a bit of an update.

Jeff has been travelling some with a project called the Christian Workers Book Set (CWBS).  He still loves going up north and has many friends up there now.  When he's not been travelling, he has been learning the project coordinator position.

Ashley finished up 6th grade at WNS..her first year of middle school.  It went much better than last year and she's enjoyed playing the violin and all the social activity surrounding the academics.  She's on break now and won't return until the 2nd week in August.

Daisy is fat...and getting fatter.  She squeaks VERY loudly when she's hungry...which is often, and the only way to keep her quiet is to feed her.  Who knew you could gain weight on cucumbers????

I'm working, and working, and working.  I'm in cleanup mode now and hoping to finish that before we leave on home assignment in December.  There's a lot to clean up and it gets pretty overwhelming sometimes.  My prayer is that while we're gone things stay "clean" and I don't have to embark on another cleanup process when we return.

God has been so good, and so faithful.  He's led us and challenged us, comforted us and strengthened us all exactly when we needed it.  We've seen him answer many, many prayers.

I'm on holiday right now, so will try to catch you all up..mostly through pictures.  If you are still tuned in..thanks for sticking with us and for praying for us when we're off the radar.
